For more than 20 years, John has handled appeals in the federal and state courts. He represents clients before the appellate courts of Missouri and Kansas. He also worked on appeals during his time as Assistant Attorney General with the Missouri Attorney General's office. John was recently successful in appealing a workers' compensation case to the Missouri Court of Appeals. That case, Taylor v. Contract Freighters, Inc., 315 S.W.3d 379 (Mo. App. 2010), found a claim to be compensable which had been denied based on an idiopathic injury rationale. The case was featured on the front page of the Missouri Lawyers Weekly and subsequently featured again in a lengthy Missouri Lawyers Weekly article in which it was profiled as one of the most significant cases of the year.

Another notable case was State of Missouri v. Lewis Leroy Thomas, 893 S.W.2d 382 (Mo. App. 1995), in which John, while Assistant Attorney General of Missouri, was successful in upholding a controlled substance conviction in the Missouri Court of Appeals.

John was also legal counsel for the State of Missouri in Bob Hammerschmidt v. Boone County, 877 S.W.2d 98 (Mo. 1994) which dealt with a county commission's authority to form a county constitution.
